How to Stay Positive During COVID-19 as an Event Entrepreneur: Six Tips

For many, the corona virus impacts the event industry like nothing else. Besides the impact on millions of people's health, the virus causes unrest and uncertainty in the business world as well. As we like to adapt and see the positive side of things, today's topic is focused on the opportunities COVID-19 might create. Can we get something positive out of it and how can we turn around the current mindset? Spoiler alert: We can!

The corona virus demands entrepreneurs to think out-of-the-box and to be creative. We have seen amazing examples around the world of all types of event entrepreneurs turning around their business like no other. In times like these, people go back to the basics and totally rethink their business model. In order to still be able to organize events, you have to come up with new ideas and work out how to overcome the limitations concerning the constantly changing COVID-19 measures.

Many entrepreneurs have worked hard to come up with ways to generate income. Bands and singers give concerts online or on a smaller scale in living rooms, restaurants prepare their meals and started delivering food, gyms guide their customers via zoom, etc. There are also solutions for the events industry. In the early days of corona it turned out to be tricky to organize anything at all, since you could only get together with 3 people. Yet there have been event agencies that had the perfect solution for this, namely online events. Though most people may have been skeptical about this at the start, it turned out to work fine as a temporary solution for several cases such as meetings and congresses.

Unfortunately, we do not yet know when we can organize normal events again or if

the current situation will be our new normal. For now, we will have to deal with these alternative solutions and build further on this.

We also see possibilities to organize a hybrid event. Such an event is almost the same as an

online event. The only difference between an online event and a hybrid event is that with a hybrid event there is direct interaction with the online participants and with an online event there is not.

Though there are a number of solutions as an event entrepreneur, it is for a fact that we are facing a difficult time right now. We therefore have six mindset tips for you to apply when times are though.

Tip 1: Accept you can't change the situation

Most event entrepreneurs have experienced disappointment after disappointment. But the longer you stay in this state of disappointment, the more negative you become. It is just the way it is and unfortunately we have no influence on the situation. The sooner we accept the situation, the sooner we can look ahead and look for new opportunities. Also remember that this situation is temporary.

Tip 2: Stay in a steady rhythm

Due to the corona crisis, we work partly or even full-time from home. Most entrepreneurs also have less work, so you can no longer work full days at the office. Now it is important that you maintain your normal rhythm, if you do not do this, you may get less and less motivated and will not be able do get any work done. When you keep a steady work pace, you stay in the right flow and mindset, ready to grab opportunities when they arise.

Tip 3: Strive for positivity

Someone who manages to stay positive is more comfortable in their skin than someone who is dwelling in the negative. But how do you ensure that you stay positive? For starters: Avoid negative news! There is no point in keeping up to date all day round with all the negative news that is spread nowadays. Especially because you have no influence on this at all. Live your day with a smile. Laughter is very healthy and it helps you to stay positive when you have a smile on your face. Always try to look for the positive side of a situation even if it is very difficult right now.

Tip 4: Look for new opportunities and possibilities

As mentioned earlier, corona causes uncertainty and anxiety for some, but corona also creates new opportunities and possibilities. This is where entrepreneurship really starts. Being able to adapt to unexpected situations and respond creatively to them is difficult, but it is part of the job. Grab new opportunities and possibilities with both hands, spar with peers in similar situations and take time to rethink what you are doing and adapt it to the current situation.

Tip 5: Take care of yourself

Research has shown that exercise and a healthy diet are essential to have a more positive attitude towards life. Diet and exercise are an effective way to overcome negative feelings and depression.

Tip 6: Try meditation and / or mindfulness

Through meditation and mindfulness you can train your thought process so you can work on adapting a hard-to-beat mindset. By doing so, you will focus on positive thoughts and will therefore be more likely to attract positive things in your life. You will also notice that you will be able to clear your mind easier and become calmer.

As you can see, there are plenty of ways to get through this corona crisis positively. Ultimately, only you have your thoughts in your hands and only you can do something about this to get your thoughts from negative to positive.
